IDF Chief of Staff: We Are in the Golan to Protect Israel’s Security

IDF Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi, conducted a situation assessment and field tour on Friday in the Golan Heights with the Northern Command leader, the 210th Division commander, and other senior officers.

Lt. Gen. Halevi stated:
“We have been here for about a week. Our primary reason is the security of the state. We are here to protect the borders in the Golan Heights, the northern Golan, and Mount Hermon. A hostile state was here; its army collapsed, and there is now a threat of terrorist elements entering the area. Therefore, we took preemptive measures to prevent the establishment of terrorist elements, particularly extremist ones, near our borders.”

He added:
“We do not interfere in what happens inside Syria, nor do we have any intention of managing Syrian affairs. However, we intervene decisively and directly when it concerns the security of Israeli citizens in the communities behind us in the Golan Heights. We do this professionally, appropriately, and firmly.”

The Chief of Staff also praised the preparations along the border from Mount Hermon to the Israel-Syria-Jordan tri-border area, stating:
“These are correct and effective preparations. Make sure to implement all necessary adjustments. You have the full support of the IDF.”
