U.S. Envoys to Israel for Ceasefire Agreement with Hezbollah

Israeli media reports that U.S. President Joe Biden’s envoys, Amos Hochstein and Brett McGurk, will visit Israel tomorrow to negotiate an agreement aimed at ending the conflict in Lebanon. According to Axios, American and Israeli officials believe Hezbollah is now prepared to distance itself from Hamas in Gaza, potentially paving the way for a ceasefire within weeks.

The proposed agreement would involve a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces to the Israeli side of the border during a 60-day transition period following an initial ceasefire declaration. During this period, the Lebanese army would deploy forces in southern Lebanon, and UNIFIL troops would be reinforced with German, French, and British contingents. A new international monitoring force would oversee any ceasefire violations by Israel or Hezbollah.

Yedioth Ahronoth reported that current talks to end the Lebanon conflict have reached an advanced stage, with Hochstein leading these efforts in Israel and Lebanon. Western sources suggest Hezbollah has agreed to separate Lebanon from Gaza, with Iran’s approval to pull its forces north of the Litani River.
