The U.S. Embassy in Beirut has issued a new security alert strongly encouraging all U.S. citizens in Lebanon to depart immediately. Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport remains open, with commercial flights available. The U.S. government has added thousands of extra seats on flights since September 27 to assist U.S. citizens and their families in leaving the country, though much of this additional capacity has gone unused.
The embassy warns that these additional flights will not continue indefinitely and urges those who wish to leave to take advantage of current options. U.S. citizens are advised to complete a crisis intake form for assistance with departure, emergency loans, or emergency passport requests.
For those choosing to stay, the embassy recommends making contingency plans that do not rely on U.S. government assistance, as the situation may deteriorate further.
