Lebanon Approves U.S. Ceasefire Plan, Vows Sovereignty and Disarmament

🇱🇧 In a pivotal shift, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam confirmed Beirut’s official endorsement of the U.S.-backed ceasefire stabilization plan presented by Ambassador Tom Barak. The 11-point initiative calls for restoring full state sovereignty, disarming Hezbollah and other non-state actors, and re-establishing exclusive state authority across all Lebanese territory.

Key highlights of the plan include:
• Implementation of the Taif Agreement and Resolution 1701, reaffirming that only the state can possess weapons in Lebanon.
• Complete halt of hostilities, including land, sea, and air violations.
• Disarmament of Hezbollah and all non-governmental entities south and north of the Litani River.
• Deployment of the Lebanese Army to border areas and key internal zones.
• Israel’s withdrawal from disputed “five points” and resolution of prisoner issues through indirect negotiations.
• Return of displaced civilians to border towns and properties.
• Demarcation of borders with both Israel and Syria to avoid future disputes.
• A U.S.-led international economic conference with support from France, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar to revive Lebanon’s economy.
• Military aid to the Lebanese Army from international partners to ensure security enforcement.

This marks the strongest official commitment by Lebanon in years to assert state control over arms and territory, with the support of President Trump’s administration and key allies.
