🇷🇺🇺🇦 War in Ukraine – Day 1,255: Record Airstrike Casualties, New U.S. Deadline for Peace

On day 1,255 of the Russia-Ukraine war, Ukraine mourns 31 dead after Russia’s deadliest airstrike of 2025 hit a Kyiv apartment block, including five children. 159 others were injured, with recovery operations lasting more than 24 hours. President Zelenskyy confirmed that Russia launched 3,800+ drones and 260 missiles in July alone, marking an intensification of attacks.

In response, NATO and the U.S. are implementing the PURL system to fast-track $500M weapon tranches to Ukraine. Germany, in coordination with the U.S., will send two Patriot systems to Kyiv. Meanwhile, Ukraine accuses Russia of aiding North Korea’s drone program.

Amid international pressure, President Trump set a deadline for Russia to make peace progress, backed by UK PM Keir Starmer and Zelenskyy. However, Putin remains defiant, announcing deliveries of the Oreshnik ballistic missile system and signaling the war’s momentum is “in Moscow’s favor.”

Zelenskyy responded, reaffirming his readiness for direct leader-level peace talks. Regionally, Trump announced that two U.S. nuclear submarines are now positioned “in the appropriate regions” following warnings from Russia’s Dmitry Medvedev. Russian opposition figure Ilya Yashin, now in Serbia, called Ukraine “Europe’s frontline.”
