🇸🇾🇱🇧 Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa is reportedly threatening a diplomatic and economic escalation against Beirut due to Lebanon’s continued disregard for the issue of detained Syrian nationals.
According to Syria TV, Damascus is considering a gradual response, beginning with freezing security and economic cooperation, and possibly closing border crossings between the two nations. This includes potential restrictions on Lebanese trucks and trade routes.
Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani is scheduled to visit Beirut in the coming days, tasked with discussing the detainee file. However, Syrian officials have expressed growing frustration, and there is speculation that Damascus may completely shut down the land crossings with Lebanon if no agreement is reached.
This development signals a new phase of tension in Lebanese-Syrian relations, with direct implications for cross-border trade, security coordination, and diplomatic ties.
