| Israeli Defense Minister Discusses Strikes on Iran with U.S.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant informed his U.S. counterpart, Lloyd Austin, of the success of recent strikes on Iran, highlighting “strategic opportunities” that could arise. Gallant reported on initial assessments of strikes targeting missile production sites, surface-to-air missile systems, and Iranian air capabilities, along with gains on the northern and southern fronts in Lebanon and Gaza.
Gallant’s Remarks on Hostages and Concessions
Gallant emphasized the need for “painful concessions” to secure the release of hostages in Gaza, recognizing that military operations alone may not achieve all war objectives. Marking the anniversary of the October 7 Hamas attack, Gallant acknowledged military achievements in the ongoing conflict, noting that Hamas’ military function in the south has been significantly impaired, while Hezbollah in the north has sustained losses, including leadership and rocket arsenal degradation.
The Gaza conflict, which followed Hamas’ unprecedented assault on southern Israel resulting in 1,206 Israeli deaths, continues to see extensive Israeli air and ground operations, reportedly leading to over 42,924 Palestinian casualties, mainly women and children, according to Hamas’ health ministry. Additionally, Hezbollah opened a support front for Gaza, leading to open conflict and intensified Israeli strikes in Lebanon.
